While I like our front porch any time of year, it really looks best in fall colors.  You wouldn’t even have to hold swatches of different colored fabric around its face to realize our house is clearly an autumn.  The burgundy door and shutters and warm brick lend themselves nicely to pumpkins, fall leaves, and mums.  I recently took an afternoon to autumn-ize our porch and love how it turned out.

I picked out some mums in a purplish color that would look nice next to our front door and shutters, planted them in the same buckets I used last year, and set them on a weathered step ladder.  I skipped the traditional orange pumpkins this year, opting instead to bring home grey, green-white, and striped varieties.  You can see the remnants of some of my kids’ chalk art underneath the ladder too.

I transitioned my Year Round Wreath from its Americana embellishments to some simple fall elements from Dollar Tree.  I purposely chose faux leaves that drew upon the oranges and purples from the rest of the porch.

My blue stained park bench and the spray painted wicker chair also got quick updates with autumn-inspired throw pillows.

I used the same pillows that were on the bench as part of the porch’s Red, White, and Blue Makeover this summer, and sewed some envelope-back pillow covers from scrap fabric.  I used gold acrylic paint to hand-paint the word “fall” on one of the covers.

I love having a real front porch to decorate for the seasons.  It makes such a nice first impression for visitors!  While we are on the topic of Fall color, I thought I would share some of the photos of fall color that I took this past week in Northern Michigan.  Enjoy!
